Red Card Suspensions

One of the worst things that a player could do in a game is to do an unsportsmanlike act, and as a result, get the dreaded red card. Getting a red card suspension can cost a club important games, and even league championships. Let’s see how these suspensions could affect their club’s current campaign.

Cristiano Ronaldo receives a direct Red
The 2013 Ballon d’Or winner received a direct red card after he made a slight shove to the face of Carlos Gurpegui. It is speculated that Gurpegui might have exaggerated his fall and with the added commotion of the crowd, the match official had no second thoughts on giving Ronaldo the red card at the 75th minute mark of the game. It is still not clear if Ronaldo would be out for one game or three, but it is sure that Real Madrid would definitely miss the skills of the current best player in the world.

Mathieu Flamini out for two more games
Mathieu Flamini received a direct red card when he lunged with his two feet on Morgan Schneiderlin. Arsenal was lucky because even though the midfielder was sent off on the 80th minute, they still managed to escape with a draw. Flamini has already served one suspension and still has two more. With Aaron Ramsey still out, this gives more problems to Arsene Wenger’s midfield woes.

Gianluigi Buffon is one game away from returning
The club captain made a harsh challenge on an attempt to deny Miroslav Klose a goal and ended up taking him down on the pitch. The absence of the Italian keeper is a big blow to the team. On the brighter side, Buffon has already served one of his two match bans and is one game away from returning.

Jordi Alba will miss one game for Barcelona
Jordi Alba was given two yellow cards which is equivalent to a red card in their fixture against Valencia, which they also lost. This means that he would not be available in their next fixture against Sevilla. Barca’s back line will not be as strong, due to Javier Mascherano 5th yellow card accumulation of the season, which results into an automatic suspension in their next fixture.
