Injuries a concern for AC Milan, as they are set to face La Liga Giant Atletico Madrid in the Champions League

Serie A club AC Milan are hoping to extend their Champions League stint. In order to advance, they must duel with Spanish club Atletico Madrid. It will be a big challenge for them as they are facing one of the top clubs in the Spanish League today. Having 8 players on the sidelines due to injuries and 2 players waiting to serve their suspensions, it is not looking good for the San Siro side. But there is still some good news to be seen for Milan fans as some players are looking to return just in time for the Champions League clash. Let’s take a look at some of AC Milan’s players and see the status of their recovery.

Kaka (Ankle Injury – Doubtful)
The Brazilian midfielder sprained his ankle in a fixture against Bologna which makes him a doubt in their clash against Atletico Madrid. Reports by Tutto Mercato states that Kaka is looking forward to feature in the match and is optimistic with his recovery. Being an integral part of the starting 11, Manager Clarence Seedorf doesn’t want to gamble the health of his midfielder and further aggravate the injury. He said that he will wait until the last minute to see if Kaka will play. According to Gazzeta, Kaka is doing a custom type of work in the gym and is constantly being monitored by the medical staff.

Stephan El Shaarawy (Foot Injury – Early April)
El Shaarawy has been out since last year due to a foot injury that he suffered. He is definitely missed by the team but according to Vice-President Adriano Galliani, it would take six more weeks until Shaarawy can return on the pitch and even by then it still depends on the phase of his recovery. Doctor and Professor Niek Van Dijk will do a check-up on Shaarawy’s progress and will see if the medical boot that the player is sporting can be taken off.

Robinho (Thigh Injury – Few Days)
Robinho suffered a muscular injury in his left thigh in their fixture against Napoli. The Brazilian forward is scheduled to undergo further test on his injury within the week to reevaluate its status. As of the moment, it is unlikely that he could feature in time for the Italian side against Atletico Madrid.

Riccardo Montolivo (Two-game suspension)
AC Milan captain received a straight Red Card for his challenge on Ajax player Christian Poulsen. Because of the direct red card, Montolivo will surely miss both matches against Atletico Madrid. Sulley Ali Muntari will also miss the first encounter with Atletico due to disciplinary points.
