Who won’t be available in El Clasico?

It is probably one of the most highly anticipated matchup every year, Real Madrid vs. Barcelona, most commonly known as “El Clasico”. This fan favorite matchup will occur this weekend at Camp Nou, as both clubs seeks to give the first hit against their arch nemesis.

With all the hype in the upcoming match, here are some of the unfortunate few who are in the race to get fit, to be a part of this classic bout.

BARCELONA
Gerard Pique (Hamstring Injury – Doubtful)
After not playing in their match against Osasuna, Pique just might not make it in the field again as he is still recovering from his injury. Barca has not released any official statement regarding the injury so it is still undetermined on whether it is a severe injury or not so he is definitely doubtful for the match.

Ibrahim Afellay (Hamstring Injury – Late December 2013)
It appears that Afellay still has a lengthy stay at the sidelines before he can get back on the field. He has been unable to fully recover from his hamstring injury, which he acquired last season. At this rate, it seems that it will take him a whole year to fully recover from his injury, which will be at approximately late in December.

Jonathan dos Santos (Cruciate Ligament Injury – Late April  2014)
Jonathan dos Santos sustained a cruciate ligament injury during a training session and it is looking like he will be out for as long as six months. He will be definitely sitting out El Clasico this weekend as he will undergo additional tests to determine the severity of his injury.

Jordi Alba (Leg Injury – Mid December 2013)
With Jordi Alba’s absence, it is most likely that Adriano will be called up in his place as the starting left back. Alba has still not recovered from a leg injury, which he acquired in September. He is set to miss their match against Real Madrid as he also looks at a lengthy stay in the sidelines.

REAL MADRID
Xabi Alonso (Broken Toe & Groin Injury – Back In Training)
Good news for Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso is progressing in his recovery from his injury and is now back in training together with the squad after a lengthy absence. He was mending a groin injury last season and received another injury blow in September by breaking one of his toes. But things are definitely looking bright for him as he looks to recover from his injury any time soon. However, it is not reported yet if he will be a part of the El Clasico match this weekend.

It is very evident that Barcelona seems to be quite in a disadvantage because of their injury woes. Whereas Real Madrid is almost a 100% healthy squad coming in to the rival match. Regardless of the health problems, Barca is still currently sitting at the top of the Primera Division with Atletico Madrid just trailing behind.
