Latest Victims of the Red Card

Emotions come into play when situations are getting heavy. In the world of Football, when a game is heating up, a player can get unwary of his decisions and is more prone to making costly mistakes which could make the referee give out a red card if he sees the act committed as an unprofessional. At this point in the season, every game is a must win, either if it’s for the top spot, chasing a Champions League berth, or escaping relegation, missing players due to suspension is not an option. Here are some players that have recently been given a Red Card.

Martin Demichelis – Direct Red Card
In the 53rd minute of the much anticipated Champions League match between Barcelona and Manchester City, Martin Demichelis was handed a Direct Red Card in which some say affected the match greatly. The immediate result was a penalty that was awarded to fellow Argentinian Lionel Messi, in which he then converted into a goal. It is likely that Demichelis would miss the crucial game that will decide who will advance in the next round of the Champions League.

Emir Spahic – Two Yellow Cards
Bayer Leverkusen went for a beating in the hands of French club Paris Saint-Germain. On what made a bad game worse, center back Emir Spahic saw his second yellow card which automatically gives him a red card and then sent off the game. His first yellow was given after a challenge to Ibrahimovic which made the Sweden striker fall down.  The second yellow was given when Spahic was aggressively holding back PSG’s Lucas, which resulted to the center back being taken out of the game.

Aritz Aduriz –Two Yellow Cards
Athletic Bilbao’s winning streak came to an end due to a shocking win by Espanyol. Early in the match, Espanyol stunned the home team by getting an early lead. Athletic Striker Aritz Aduriz saw a second yellow card at some point in the game, which made him exit the match and eventually lead to his club losing to Espanyol. The first yellow came in the first half when he made a late challenge on David Lopez. Athletic had chances to get a draw out of the match but when Aduriz saw his final yellow, it summed up a miserable night for the home team. Aduriz is scheduled to miss their next league game against Real Betis.

Daniele Conti  – Direct Red Card, Marco Benassi – Direct Red Card, & Federico Ceccherini – Two Yellow Cards
In just one game a total of three players were sent off to leave the pitch. Both Livorno and Cagliari are trying to stay out of the bottom of the standings to avoid relegation, in which resulted to a very physical game. The first casualty was Cagliari man Daniele Conti who saw a direct red card in the 71st minute. He received a red card due to use of abusive language. The second casualty is Federico Ceccherini, who received his first yellow due to a foul he committed on Ekdal. His second yellow came in the 86th minute mark after tugging the jersey of Ekdal. In the dying minutes of the match, Marco Benassi was sent off with a direct red card due to a professional foul on Mauricio Pinilla. Even though Livorno was down to 9 players, they still escaped with the very important win.
