It is a time of joy as we celebrate the yuletide season, and a time to give thanks for another year of awesome football. But it is not all good news, there were a number of players that got sidelined in the past few weeks and we still have some last minute injuries before the end of the year.
These players will unfortunately spend the holidays nursing their injuries, with that said, here are the players that will spend the winter break looking to recover from their injuries:
Sergio Aguero, Manchester City (Calf Injury – Late January)
The leading scorer for Manchester City is likely to miss the fixtures for most of January and maybe even some in February, as he sustained a calf injury in a fixture against Arsenal. Results have shown that the calf injury is not that serious, as manager Manuel Pellegrini initially feared. It is likely that he should be fit before their Champions League clash with FC Barcelona. Indeed it will be a good match up, but both squads should have their starters in order to secure the win. Aguero is expected to return for the club by the end of January.
Xabi Alonso, Real Madrid (Head Injury – Unknown Return Date)
The last fixture of Real Madrid for the year was unlucky for Xabi Alonso as he suffered from aperforated left eardrum. Alonso managed to finish the game, but he needed some medical attention right after, which made him stay in Valencia for further test. According to Al Primer Toque, Valencia’s Jeremy Mathieu struck Alonso in the ear in the 58th minute of the game. At the moment, Alonso’s expected return is still indefinite, as further tests are still needed.
Jose Reina, Napoli (Muscle Injury – Unknown Return Date)
Napoli’s goalkeeper Jose Reina will yet again go back to the sidelines after just returning from an injury in recent weeks. Reina wasn’t able to finish the game wherein he was hobbling off the pitch in half time. It is said that Reina obtained the injury after collecting a misplaced pass at the end of the first half.
Gerard Deulofeu, Everton (Hamstring/Strain – Mid February)
As starts to make an impression in the Premier League, the Barcelona loaned winger suffered a hamstring tear and Gerard Deulofue was carried out on a stretcher during a home win over Fulham FC. It has been confirmed by Barcelona’s medical team that he will be sidelined for six to eight weeks. He will continue his recovery in Barcelona in coordination with Everton’s medical team.
