Matchday 29 in the Premier League had some predictable results. From the thrashing 4 nil win of Manchester City over Aston Villa to the tight draw between Tottenham and Arsenal on their sixth meeting this season. Despite the North London Derby grabbing all the hype, it was eleventh placed West Brom that stirred things up with their victory over Manchester United despite the absence of their skipper, We bring you updates on Chris Brunt and other injury news.
Brunt sidelined for 6 months
West Brom have confirmed via the club’s official Twitter feed that defender Chris Brunt has undergone surgery that will rule him out for six months after he suffered a serious knee injury. The news means that the 31-year-old will also miss the chance to play in his first international tournament after he helped guide Northern Ireland to Euro 2016.
Brunt fell awkwardly during the first-half of Albion’s 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace and had to be stretchered off the field. He was sent for a scan and the results were not good for the left-back as they showed that he had ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Lucas Leiva to miss 5-6 weeks
Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva will miss the next four to five weeks with a thigh injury, Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said on Friday. On a brighter note, Mamadou Sakho was able to play against Crystal Palace last Sunday. He missed the midweek Premier League win over Manchester City after picking up injuries in the League Cup final shootout defeat by the same opponents last February 28.
De Bruyne returns to training
Manchester City forward Kevin De Bruyne has stepped up his recovery from injury by returning to training. He has been out of action since suffering knee ligament damage and a sprained ankle in the Capital One Cup semi-final win over Everton last January 27. The 24-year-old said last week his recovery was “going according to plan” and he hoped to be back in full training with the squad “after the international break at the end of March”.
