The current league leaders still have a handful of players that are nursing injuries on the sidelines. The good thing is that manager Tata Martino is successful in managing the team even though key players are missing most of the time. Being just barely ahead of their league rivals Real Madrid, and with Atletico also on their tails, Barcelona must be careful not to lose any more key players, because if that happens, it might cause them their status as the current top club in their league. Here are some of the players that are still recovering from their injuries.
Neymar (Sprained Ankle – Mid February)
Neymar Jr. sprained his ankle in their Copa del Rey match against Getafe. The medical test confirms that Neymar has indeed sprained his peroneal tendons in his right ankle and will be out for three to four weeks. The club has confirmed that he will miss two more league games – against Malaga and Valencia. It is ironic that with the return of their star Lionel Messi, it is now Neymar’s turn to be the one on the sidelines to take care of his injury.
Andres Iniesta (Knee Injury – Doubtful)
According to the club’s website, Iniesta is now training with the club after injuring his knee in their fixture against Atletico Madrid that ended in a draw. It is also stated by manager Tata Martino, that aside from training with the club, Iniesta is also doing a separate workout by himself. It is still unknown when the duo of Iniesta and Xavi would be available again for the club, but once Iniesta returns it will surely be a handful for other clubs’ midfield.
Carles Puyol (Leg Injury – Unknown Return Date)
Blaugrana captain Carles Puyol was forced to leave the pitch in their Copa del Rey quarterfinals win against Levante. The medical test has confirmed that Puyol only suffered a bruising on his left leg and that it will be checked again ahead of their next match against Malaga. It was a sigh of relief for the club when they found out that the knock was nowhere near his surgically repaired knee.
