The Blues have been recently experiencing an untimely injury list as they approach the closing games of the Premier League and currently hanging in the semis of the Champions League. Within the Premier League, Chelsea’s next opponent would be Liverpool FC who is the favorite on bagging the championship. It is a must win for Chelsea so they could close the gap to Liverpool within three points. As for their Champions League campaign, the Blues were drawn with La Liga side club Atletico Madrid and their first leg has recently ended which they barely escaped with a point a piece ending the match with a score 0-0. Aside from the scoreless draw, Chelsea returns to England with unwanted news adding more players in their injury list. Let’s take a look on the aftermath of the champions League at what is left for Chelsea in their upcoming matches.
Petr Cech (Dislocated Shoulder – Out For Season)
With just 16 minutes into the match, 1st choice goalkeeper Petr Cech endured a season ending injury due to dislocated shoulder that he sustained while defending a corner kick. It has been confirmed by manager Jose Mourinho that Cech’s season is already over. But besides the injury, the Chosen One is trying be optimistic that his keeper could celebrate with them if they are able to bag any silverware. Mourinho told Sky Sports Italia after the match “Cech’s season is over,” he also added “He won’t play again this term, but I hope he can at least celebrate something with us.”
John Terry (Ankle Injury – Out For Season)
Another blow for the blues coming from their Champions League match is losing their captain John Terry due to an ankle injury. Terry landed awkwardly after Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa stepped on his foot in the 71stminute. Terry still attempted to continue but was withdrawn from the match as he was unable to move on his own. Jose Mourinho has stated that John Terry could still play if they make it into the finals of the Champions League. Mourinho stated after the match “For John [Terry], we will have to play the final for him to play again.”
Eden Hazard (Calf Injury – Day to Day)
The Belgian striker was sidelined in their Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter final round. Since then, Eden Hazard hasn’t featured for Chelsea but was included in the 20-man squad that they brought to Madrid. On the eve of their match, Hazard was not part of the group that trained for the clash. In addition, Samuel Eto’o is still out due to a knee injury.
As for their Champions League campaign they will also have to deal with the suspensions of John Obi Mikel and Frank Lampard as they have both been shown yellow cards in the match which has been their second yellow cards for the season.
